Dig your main tunnel 2 blocks tall and 1 block wide. Make it long enough to fit 20. 30 branches. Then start digging side tunnels—branches (every) 2 or 3 blocks.
Why 2 (3) blocks apart? Because diamond ore veins are up to 8 blocks wide. Space them farther and you miss chunks.
Closer and you’re just re-digging air.
Clear out a safe zone first. No lava pools. No caves.
No mobs spawning behind you. You don’t want to fight skeletons while holding a pickaxe and a water bucket.
Bring iron or better pickaxes. Torches. Lots of them.
And a water bucket (yes,) every time. Lava isn’t a surprise. It’s a guarantee.
