First Days in Minecraft: Don’t Die Tonight
I punched a tree. You will too. It’s the first real thing you do.
Start with wood. Punch any tree trunk until it drops logs. Right-click to open your inventory.
Turn logs into planks. Make a crafting table. Place it on the ground.
Now craft tools. A stone pickaxe first (mine) stone, then make better tools. An axe for more wood.
A shovel for dirt. A sword if something comes at you.
Shelter before dark. Dig into a hill. Stack dirt blocks into a hut.
Or find a cave. But watch for creepers (they don’t make noise before exploding).
Coal? Mine stone. Look for black specks.
Food? Kill chickens or cows. Cook meat in a furnace.
You’ll need coal and cobblestone.
You will starve if you forget to eat. Check your hunger bar. Eat raw meat early.
But cooked lasts longer.
Hostile mobs spawn at night. Run. Hide.
Don’t fight barehanded. A wooden sword buys time.

Light matters. Torches stop mobs from spawning.
Water kills fall damage. Lava does not.
Sleep in a bed to skip the night. But you need three beds to set one up properly (and) that’s tomorrow’s problem.
Today? Just survive till sunrise.
Mine Smarter Not Harder
I strip mine at Y=11. It’s faster than digging down and hoping. Cave exploring works too.
But only if you bring torches. (And yes, you’ll forget them once. Then you’ll die.)
Diamonds spawn between Y=5 and Y=12. I dig a staircase down to Y=11, then branch out every 2 blocks. No guesswork.
Iron? Common. Use it for tools and armor early.
Gold? Pretty useless for gear. Except clock or powered rails.
Redstone powers doors and traps. Lapis makes blue dye and enchanting tables. Emeralds?
Trading only. Don’t waste time farming them.
You need a furnace to smelt ore. Craft one with eight cobblestone. Put coal.
Or charcoal. In the bottom slot. Ore goes on top.
Wait. Done.
Torches stop mobs from spawning in dark spots. Place one every 6 (7) blocks in tunnels. Skip this and you’ll get swarmed by creepers in your own mine.
(Yes, it happened to me.)
Inventory fills fast. I carry a chest to dump loot mid-mine. Or I sprint back to base every 10 minutes.
No shame.

Build Your Base Right
I dig holes. I stack blocks. I get chased by creepers at 3 a.m.
(yes, really).
Underground bases hide you. Treehouses give views. Castles scream drama.
Modern builds? Clean lines and no cobwebs.
You need wood, stone, and torches. Punch trees. Mine stone.
Smelt ore. Torch everything.
Plan before you place. Sketch it on paper. Or just walk the perimeter and point at where the door should go.
Lighting isn’t optional. Dark corners = mob spawn points. Put torches every 7 blocks.
No exceptions.
Perimeter walls work. A simple 3-block-high wall with a gate stops zombies cold. Add cacti or lava if you’re feeling spicy.
Scaffolding saves your life. It lets you build up without falling. Or cheating with creative mode.
Symmetry? Just copy one side and paste it. Mirror it.
Done.
Storage needs chests. Labeled if you’re serious. Crafting room needs a table and space.
Bedroom needs a bed (and yes, you must sleep). Farm needs light, water, and dirt.

Not what the wiki says you should. Your base. Your rules.
Farming for Food, XP, and More
I built my first wheat farm in survival mode and ate three loaves before I even placed the torches.
You need farmland, water, and seeds. That’s it.
Carrots and potatoes grow on tilled dirt too. Just right-click the crop on farmland. Beetroots?
Same thing. No magic. No tutorials required.
Cows give beef and leather. Chickens drop eggs, feathers, and raw chicken. Pigs?
Porkchops. You don’t need to breed them (but) why wait for lightning strikes when you can feed two cows wheat and get a calf in seconds?
Breeding is simple: feed two animals their favorite food, heart particles appear, then a baby. Keep them fenced. Keep them safe.
Mob farms are where XP gets real. A simple zombie or skeleton spawner farm gives XP orbs and drops like bones or rotten flesh. You don’t need redstone PhDs.
Don’t forget to name them with a name tag if you care (I do).
Just lava, water, and a bucket.
Sugar cane grows next to water. Harvest it. Craft paper.
Make books. Enchant stuff. It’s boring.
It’s necessary. It’s how you stop dying to creepers with better gear.
